Protesters numbering in the hundreds have poured into the streets in Lagos and marched towards the Government House in Alausa to register their displeasure with the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola.
A News Express Special Correspondent encountered the protesters as they detoured into Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, from Ojota and made their way towards the Government House in the state capital, Ikeja. Those who spoke with our correspondent said the protest originated from Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb.
The protesters, under the aegis of the Professional Carpenters & Furniture Makers Association of Lagos State, brandished placards that captured their grievances.
“Gov Fashola, thank you for training us, but give us contract” one of the placards read.
Another claimed that over six million carpenters and furniture makers in Nigeria have been jobless because of massive importation of furniture products from abroad as well as the giving of contract to big foreign-owned furniture companies.
News Express could not immediately confirm if the protesters were able to get audience at the Government House.
