Local Government workers in Kogi State this morning blocked the Federal Highway around Koton Karfe in protest over non-payment of salaries arrears by the state government despite the bail out by the federal government.
A Daily Trust report said that the protest lasted for hours, resulting in a heavy gridlock on the highway, subjecting commuters to monumental suffering.
The protest reportedly started around 8am, gaining momentum as more protesters came out to block the road.
The scene was “chaotic with hundreds of protesters on the road causing over two kilometres of traffic as vehicle and commuters are trapped without movement,” the report said.
It said it took the arrival of the traditional ruler of Katon-Karfe to calm down the protesters, whereupon the protesting workers agreed to suspend their protest, freeing up the highway for motorists.
