The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Tuesday lauded the Northern State Governors Forum (NSGF) resolve to end insurgency, tackle poverty, illiteracy as well as reposition the North.
A communiqué signed by the State Secretary of the NUJ, Dominic Uzu, and issued through e-mail at the end of its congress in Kaduna, also urged Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima to consolidate on the success achieved during the last meeting held on Kaduna.
The communiqué also reads in part: “That the NUJ Kaduna state elections should unfailingly be conducted in December to avoid violation of the constitution.
“That Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima, be commended for his magnanimity and warm reception accorded journalists during the 19 Northern States Governors forum meeting held in Kaduna recently and directed that a letter of commendation be written acknowledging the kind gesture.
“Also that a letter of commendation be written thanking Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, KRPC, Senator Shehu Sani and Senator Danjuma La’ah for their invaluable contributions and support rendered to the union during the Abuja delegates conference.
“That Kaduna State government be cautioned against deploying a divide and rule system to polarise journalists in the state and in case it goes ahead on issue of preventing journalists from covering major assignment such as governors forum meeting, the council will not hesitate to boycott such assignment.
“That the speculation making rounds that the council exco hijacked Hajj seat and distributed to cronies are unfounded and should be disregarded. It therefore stressed that council did not receive Hajj or Jerusalem seat from Kaduna state government this year, but gathered that some members benefited such seat directly from the state government.”
