Anambra Central APGA senatorial aspirant, Uzu Okagbue
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The Campaign team of former Governor Willie Obiano’s Aide, Uzu Okagbue, has appointed Ebuka Onyekwelu as its Director of Media and Spokesman.
Onyekwelu, a senior writer and columnist with the West African Pilot News, is a political specialist and seasoned media practitioner of over seven years experience.
Speaking on his appointment during the weekend, Onyekwelu described Okagbue as someone who believes in using the instrumentality of state power to change the fortunes of the people and not a regular politician.
He said: “Mr. Uzu Okagbue is an intellectual of very fine quality, so his preparedness is not in doubt. As a person, he is driven by a strong desire to serve almost unnoticed, and anyone who has come close to him can attest that he is a man of insurmountable depths of conviction.
“He believes it is time to serve the people of Anambra Central differently and for us, we cannot be bystanders in such a noble project.”
On his principal’s chances of securing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ticket against other contenders like Chief Victor Umeh and Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, Onyekwelu expressed confidence that the party will throw the contest open for the best to emerge.
“I am convinced that APGA will do the right thing. There will be a level playing ground for aspirants and I believe, and can assure you that the people want something different and Uzu is a complete representation of what the people want.
“By and large, it’s a collective project and I am confident that the people will speak and APGA will hear. From there, we are hopeful that the people will again speak, on the general election,” Onyekwelu added.
Meanwhile, plans have been concluded by the Okagbue Campaign team that has already planted billboards at strategic points with simple inscription “UZU’ to commence ward tours and massive outreach.
According to the team, the campaign will be a movement throughout Anambra Central senatorial district even as the frontline aspirant for Anambra Central Senatorial Seat on the platform of APGA continues to intensify consultation with stakeholders.
