Piqued by the spate of lawlessness and unrest in the country which in recent times has assumed a worrisome dimension, a group of concerned Nigerians have resorted to preach the message of love through a peace movement tagged “Do It Right Nigeria”.

This, according to Dixon Jubril, National Coordinator, Do It Right Foudation, is borne out of the group’s desire to save the nation from sliding into chaos and anarchy.

Addressing a press conference Tuesday in Lagos, Jubril lamented that Nigeria is gradually sliding into a state of chaos and the citizens are becoming resentful of the government because of perceived unmet expectations. He said that if nothing is done to salvage the nation from the path of destruction it is heading “we may not have a nation in future.”

Jubril averred that there is so much benefit when we use the language of love to express our anger other than becoming physical.

“As bad as it seems, there are still certain things that binds the nation together. If we stand as a people who love Nigeria we would harness all the negative act and turn it into good, for the benefit of the generation yet unborn,” he stated.

Speaking at the conference, Joe Barggie, Deputy National Coordinator of the Foundation and a human rights activist, opined that criticism cannot help any nation hence the organisation decided to use the peace movement.

“We have lost out for a very long time and felt the best time to start talking to ourselves is now,” he said, adding there is no better time to start than now.

On how the organisation expects to achieve the herculean task especially in such a time when the nation is confronted with various challenges and the people seem to have lost faith in the government, Jubril says:

“This is a mindset re-orientation campaign designed to encourage Nigerians adopt positive attitudes and do what is right always. This entails individual change of attitude, positive thought and actions towards Nigeria.

“It is only Nigerians that can help Nigeria overcome its challenges such as violence, terrorism, instability and apathy amongst others. Therefore it is our belief that the task to build, transform and make Nigeria greater is a collective responsibility that requires the contribution and support of each and every one of us including our leaders, and will subtly appeal and encourage Nigerians to see themselves as the agent of change because we strongly believe that patriotism is encouraged and not enforced.”
