Man bags 4-year jail term for stealing motorcycles

An Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Friday sentenced a 29-year-old man, Kunle Wale, to a four-year jail term for stealing two motorcycles worth N207,000.

The Magistrate, Mr. Banji Ayeomoni, who pronounced the judgment, said that the accused of no fixed address and occupation was guilty of a two-count charge of felony and stealing.

Ayeomoni, however, granted another accused, Adeleye Olamiteju, 26, bail in the sum of N700, 000 and a surety in like sum for accepting a stolen property from Wale.

He added that the surety must be on grade level 16 in the public service with evidence of two years’ tax clearance as an additional bail condition.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, had earlier told the court that Wale on June 15, around 2. 00 a. m., at No. 2, Teminu St., Okitipupa, stole a Qlink motorcycle marked KRD 315 QE, valued at N100, 000 and belonging to one Tomide Obi.

He said that the accused also on July 3, around 9:15p.m., at Halubi Street, Okitipupa, also stole another unregistered Qlink Tiger 150 motorcycle valued at N107,000, property of one Taye Okagbare.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The magistrate, however, said that the second accused, Adeleye Olamiteju, committed an offence contrary to Section 390 (10A), Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The magistrate adjourned the case of the second accused to Sept. 12 for further hearing and for police to investigate more on the matter. (NAN)
