A member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Kingsley Iruba, has called on the State Government to establish a commission for persons living with disability in the state.
Iruba made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Awka.
He said that if created, the commission would have the responsibility of ensuring that persons in that category in the state fared well.
He explained that the commission was imperative because of absence of care for the less privileged in the state.
According to him, if created, the commission will prove to the people that government is responsible to all irrespective of social or economic status.
The lawmaker called on the people to eschew stigma often attached to persons living with disability, adding that such persons had the right to live normal lives.
He stressed the need for the government and groups to ensure that what was due to the ‘able-bodied’ individuals in the society was also given to persons with disability.
He said that disability did not mean that someone had no ability to execute activities and live a normal life like persons with physical ability. (NAN)
