Five people have been killed and six injured after an attack in Mainari village, near Maiduguri, Borno State in Nigeria’s troubled North-East.

Assailants suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents stormed Mainari, a village in Konduga Local Government, some 20 kilometres South East of Maiduguri, at about 7:30 last night, shooting sporadically, Channels Television quotes local sources as saying.

“The shooting by suspected insurgents continued till about 8pm when the military mobilised to the area and engaged the suspected insurgents in a gun battle,” the report said.

It quoted some members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Konduga telling reporters that corpses of the dead were identified as villagers after the attack.
