The Integrity Youth Alliance has called on Nigerians to be patient with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited on the excruciating fuel scarcity.
Expressing their sympathy for Nigerians “who are enduring weeks of needless queues at filling stations”, the Board Chairman of the Group, Adewole Kehinde, said in a statement on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, that with NNPC’s assurance that the situation would improve significantly over the next few days, as new shipments and supplies are distributed across the country, Nigerians should be calm.
“Nigerians should realize that the NNPC is still evacuating the dirty fuel and at the same time working to ensure supply. This is not very easy because some trucks spend about five days on the road,” the statement said.
“We are also calling on the regulators to step up their surveillance and bring an end to hoarding and price inflation by marketers, as most motorists demand way above usual.
“We have seen the videos of the road rehabilitation by the NNPC and this will surely ease movement of Petroleum products to destinations on time,” the statement said.
The statement further reiterated that petroleum products are being trucked out but Nigerians must avoid panic buying, adding that the situation will only worsen development as there already exists a gap.
Although some marketers noted that panic buying and black-market activities are worsening current development as motorists now buy way above their immediate needs, there are indications that the queues cease before the weekend.
