Ebonyi 2023 APC guber aspirant, Architect Edward Nkwegu
By CHARLES IWUOHA
A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Architect Edward Nkwegu, has promised to ensure even development, vowing to industrialise the state, if given the mandate in 2023.
Nkwegu, a successful industrialist-turned politician, made the promise while addressing newsmen at Grand Arena Event Centre, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
“If they employed me as a Chief Servant in Ebonyi State, by the Grace of God, I hope to do what I call Economic Revolution.
“The catalyst for this economic revolution will be rapid industrialisation which is creating micro, small and medium size enterprises in the state.
“Micro, small and medium size enterprises has always been an engine room of every economy and the greatest employer of labour in every society.
“I believe that sustainable and all-inclusive wealth creation is what we need in the state now to create jobs, jobs and jobs,” Nkwegu said.
“In one of my social agenda, we have to do that first with because education is the bedrock of our today’s and tomorrow’s society. And for you to do that, one must have to first of all be sure that you have access, quality and relevance in our educational sector.
“By access, l mean more enrollment in our educational institutions and by quality and relevance I mean, curricular reformation so that things that we study in our institutions are relevant to the today’s society,” he added.
Nkwegu who was the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate in 2015 election, said the state has been blessed with God-fearing leaders since inception of the current democratic experience in the country.
“Our state has been gifted with good leaders since its creation from the first executive governor, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu who came in and saw the human capital insufficiency and introduced free education.
“Chief Martin Nwanchor Elechi who reconnected all parts of the state with his brilliant initiative of unity bridges, and now the infrastructural Grand Master, Engr David Umahi, who has done marvellously in uplifting the state infrastructurally.
“So, if I become the next governor, I will go into economic revolution by creating micro, small and medium size enterprises so as to ensure that our teeming youths are gainfully employed in the area of sustainable wealth that will bring end to youth restiveness.
“I have the prerequisite experiences on wealth creation and management and that’s what our state needs now.
“I have all it takes to bring such economic revolution in the state so as to boost human capital development in the state,” the APC governorship hopeful said.
Nkwegu commended the newly inaugurated State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, for his victory and pledged his total support to lifting the party in the state.
He urged party faithful to continue supporting the party.
He called on the citizens of the state to endeavour to obtain their permanent voter’s card, saying that the card would give them the right to elect their choice candidate at the polls.
Meanwhile, he urged the youths to shun the intake of the trending methamphetamine chloride, otherwise known as ‘Mkpuru mmiri’ since the substance was not good for one's health.
