A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and incumbent Secretary to the State Government of Anambra, Hon. Oseloka Obaze, has enjoined APGA faithful not to lose sleep over Monday’s ruling by the Appeal Court in Enugu which some have interpreted as tantamount to the reinstatement of Chief Victor Umeh as the aprty’s national chairman.

Addressing Ogbaru APGA Local Government and Ward Executives yesterday at Atani, Obaze dismissed the ruling as an academic exercise, insisting that the Chief Maxi Okwu-led EXCO elected prior to the court ruling remain the authentic APGA leadership.

According to the SSG, the “recently concluded APGA National Convention which, was sanctioned and supervised by INEC followed due process and the letter and spirit of the APGA Constitution. The Maxi Okwu-led executives were therefore the authentic, functional and recognised officers of the party.”

Obaze said that in the circumstances, “The ruling by the Appeal Court in Enugu was an academic exercise that happened ex-post facto, and well after the APGA Convention had been concluded. The ruling, in law and in commonsense, had no implicit or explicit consequence on the APGA convention and its outcome as the Court did not address or repudiate the convention process.”
