Voting is now in progress at the National Convention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) holding at the Women and Children Development Centre in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Candidates from various parts of Nigeria are contesting for the various party leadership positions, with two party chieftains unveiled as candiadates for the plum position of National Chairman.
Chief Maxi Okwu, a radical lawyer and politician who was appointed Acting National Chairman following the sacking of Chief Victor Umeh by an Enugu High Court on February 8, is in the race for the position of substantive National Chairman. He is being challenged by Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, a lawyer and one-time governorship candidate currently serving as the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism.
Delegates from various parts of the country started arriving around 10 O’clock last night while the convention started around one this morning following the conclusion of the accreditation of delegates.
The delegates were welcome to the venue by a rain that lasted for about 30 minutes, which they interpret to signal divine blessing for the comvention.
