The Ebonyi State Ministry of Works has opened bid for the construction of three flyovers in three strategic areas to ease up traffic and reduce carnages in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Speaking yesterday at the bid opening ceremony at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, the Chairman of the bid committee and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Chief Kingsley Obini, said the bid was for the construction of flyovers at Presco Junction; Akanu Ibiam Round About (Spera-In-Deo)and Vanco Junction.
This, he said, was to enhance the radical transformation of the state capital and the bid for the re-laying of pipes for water reticulation in the capital city, according to him, was part of the practical steps being taking by the Engr. Dave Umahi-led administration to make life easier for the residents.
Chief Obini stated that the “bid for each of the flyovers was in two slots, one for bridge construction and the other for ancillary works; while in water, it was for “the production of water pipe lines and reticulation of water in Abakaliki City.”
He announced that three companies were bidding for contract for reticulation of water, while 10 companies were bidding for the construction of a flyover bridge at the Akanu Ibiam Roundabout (Sera-In-Deo).
Four companies are bidding for the ancillary works for the proposed flyover at the Presco Junction.
Obini reiterated that “the committee decided to expand this bid opening to include everyone to show you that right from the start we are poised to maintain transparency in line with the zero tolerance to corruption posture of the Engr.Dave Umahi led administration in the state.”
He thanked the tenders for their interest and commitment to see that Ebonyi State was developed.
Meanwhile, Ebonyi State Government has announced the inclusion of Echiegu Street down to the Dominion City Church, off Ezza Road as one of the streets to be rehabilitated in its urban renewal programme.
Governor Umahi stated this at the child dedication service in honour of the member representing Ikwo South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Chike Ogiji Imo at Abakaliki on Sunday.
Governor Umahi, said the inclusion of the street among those to receive his attention, was in recognition of the support and the prayers of the members of the church during his electioneering.
“The road will be given all the attention it deserves, including street lighting,” he said. The Governor directed the state Commissioner for Works, Fidelis Nweze to come up with the road design for presentation to the State Executive Council for approval.
He commended Ogiji and his wife for demonstrating strong faith in God during their years of childlessness; and prayed that God would lift up little Ogechukwu Goodluck Ogiji to become a child of honour to the family, the state and the society.
