Awka, capital of Anambra State, is now a beehive of activities as the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), holds its State Congress.
The event, at which a new set of APGA leaders in the state is expected to emerge, is holding at the Women and Children Development Centre, Awka.
The venue is filling up and party stalwarts from all over the state, including Governor Peter Obi, has been sighted by our correspondent.
Checks by News Express confirmed that APGA officials and members from all the 21 local government areas of the state are in attendance. Chief Victor Umeh, the estranged former national chairman of the party, who hails from Anambra State, is however, conspicuously absent.
“What is happening here this morning puts a lie to the claims in some quarters that APGA in Anambra State is factionlised,” a source at the rally told News Express. “Everybody is here, except Victor Umeh, who has chosen to isolate himself because of his selfish ambition in wanting to foist himself as national chairman despite his removal by a court of competent jurisdiction,” the source added.
