Governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Gaidam, has praised the commitment of the Federal Government to ending the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East region and some other affected states.

Governor Gaidam made the commendation on Sunday when he received Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Mungono, on a visit to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

He said with the way the Presidency is committed to ending the insurgency and with the resolve of the service chiefs to fight the militants, there is high hope that normalcy will soon be restored in the affected areas.

The governor, who traced the history of the Boko Haram insurgency from 2004, said that the sect members were treated with kid-gloves since then till 2009 when they became too strong and notorious.

He noted that with the present directive of President Muhammadu Buhari and commitment of the service chiefs, the Boko Haram insurgency will soon be a thing of the past.

The governor said the insurgents were initially seen as a north-east problem and were allowed to spread unabated; a situation which he said has become a national, sub regional and regional problem.

Governor Gaidam praised the current service chiefs, who are always on ground to give a morale booster to the troops on the battle field and the affected communities.

The governor, who expressed confidence that the war will be won, assured indigenes of the state that the affected communities and governments will continue to partner security agencies, to ensure the end to the hostility.

The NSA said he led the service chiefs to the affected areas to assess the situation in line with actualising the mandate given to them by the president.

While commending the state government for frequent care to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), he said the war will soon be over for government to commence rehabilitation and integration of the affected persons.

The NSA also called for collaboration between the community and security forces, stressing that the war needs team work, as the enemies are embedded in the people. (Channels TV)
