The lingering factional crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State may soon be over following indications that the national secretariat of the party has put machinery in place to send a fact-finding committee to the state ostensibly to resolve the crisis.
This is coming even as the Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh-led faction of Delta APC has expressed its readiness to cooperate with the national fact-finding committee, which is billed to visit Delta State anytime from now.
Spokesman of the Okotie-Eboh-led faction, Comrade Alex Eyengho, who dropped this hint weekend told journalists shortly after the meeting of the faction held in Obiaruku, headquarters of Ukwuani local government area of Delta State, said they were ready to put the past behind them provided the right thing was done.
Comrade Eyengho said that Chief Okotie-Eboh presided over the meeting which had at least five party members from each of the 25 Local Government Areas across the three senatorial districts of Delta State, and that that the meeting intimated party faithful about developments within the party both at the state and national levels.
He further observed that the huge attendance was an affirmation of the confidence reposed in the Okotie-Eboh-led faction despite the serial attempts by people he referred to as “newcomers to push out members of the legacy parties that came together to form the APC and seek ways to market the party in Delta State.”
“Our leader, Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh, thanked members for standing for the truth and remaining steadfast in spite of efforts by our detractors to diminish the contributions and sacrifice of the main founders of the party who had kept faith with the party even in the midst of the storms”, he added.
“You know that the people on the other side have so much money that we don’t have, yet they couldn’t deliver one unit for the party in the state in the last general elections. We may not be as rich as them in terms of money, but we have our integrity, goodwill and honour which continue to strengthen us.
“This long drawn-out crisis has vindicated us in a good way. We went to court and got a favourable judgment that invalidated the sham congresses organised by the other faction. Evidently, they are not on ground in the state which was the major reason they could not deliver the APC at the last general elections despite the huge money sent to them by the national headquarters of our great party.
“I am optimistic that the lingering internal crisis in Delta APC will be put behind us after the visit of the committee. It is very likely that in view of the subsisting court judgment which sacked the State EXCO and created a vacuum, new congresses will be conducted from wards, through LGAs to state level. There may even be an Interim Committee in place pending the conduct of these congresses.”
