The fairytale run of Benin City based non-league team BJ Foundation FC in the Confederations Cup came to an end yesterday evening when they lost 1-2 to Premier League side Lobi Stars of Makurdi.
In the entertaining match played at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, Kogi State, Lobi scored two first half goals while BJ’s Junior pulled one back for his team.
Tried as much as BJ did to score an equaliser, Lobi held firm to secure a place in the semi finals of the competition.
The loss notwithstanding, BJ can hold their heads high after braving all odds to win the Edo State Challenge Cup and then getting as far as the last 8 of the federations cup, humiliating Premier League top club Heartland of Owerri 3-1 in the round of 16 of the competition.
A player for BJ told News Express that the officiating in the match against Lobi was unfair against his team.
“The robbing (cheating) was too much,” he protested.
