Herdsmen, security agencies partner to tackle crime in Nasarawa

Herdsmen under the aegis of the Miyatti Allah Association in Nasarawa have resolved to partner with security agencies to rid the state of crime.

The Secretary of the group, Alhaji Bebeji Bako, told newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia that criminals had in recent times invaded villages in some parts of the state and perpetrated criminal acts in the guise of being herdsmen.

According to Bako, the criminals took advantage of the crisis involving herdsmen and farmers in the state to carry out their nefarious acts.

He, however, said herdsmen were peace-loving citizens, adding that the group had held several meetings with stakeholders, especially village heads and farmers, on restoring lasting peace in the state.

Bako urged both the state government and security agencies to be proactive in order to nip any resurgence of violence in the bud.

He also appealed to farmers in the state not to resort to self-help, but to report any herdsman involved in any unwholesome act to the authorities.

Bako, who said cases of destruction of farm produce by cows had reduced in the state, noted that this was due to constant meetings between leaders of herdsmen and farmers in the state. (NAN)
