Products and services must give value for money — FCCPC chief

FCCPC Lagos Head, Susie Onwuka

Products and services must give value for money, as consumers are entitled to expect such.

This is according to Mrs. Susie Onwuka, Head, Lagos Office, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) Nigeria.

She spoke at the maiden Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Retreat (CSR-S 2021) in Nigeria, held recently in Lagos.

The FCCPC chief stressed the need for consumer education and business obligation for consumers. “There are set standards provided by various institutions including the Federal Competition and Consumers Protection Commission (FCCPC) which companies are required to follow. So, it is the duty of companies to follow the set standards, however if the set standards are not being followed, FCCPC will go out to ensure implementations,” Mrs. Onwuka said.

She beckoned on sustainability practitioners to inform and educate consumers on their rights, saying: “Nobody should condemn consumers for their choice of products or services; consumers have lots of rights, including right to information; right to redress: right to safety; and right to value for money.”

The Retreat, held virtually on Thursday, November 25, 2021, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, had a three-pronged agenda, namely; Review Refocus and Refire.

Organised by News Express in partnership with P3 Media, the event had First Bank Nigeria Plc and Guinness Nigeria Plc as sponsors.

Other facilitators included News Express Publisher Isaac Umunna; Mr. Adewole Lawal, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, Anheuser-Busch InBev Africa; and Nelson Obine, a Business Development & Sustainability Expert.
