The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit, F. O. U, Zone ‘B’ has destroyed ‎107 cartoons of poultry products worth N1.2 million.

The product was recently, seized along Mokwa/Jebba Road in Kaduna State.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government of Nigeria banned the importation of poultry products in a bid to safe guide the well-being of its citizens as well as to protect the poultry ‎industry in the country.

Comptroller, ‎F. O. U Zone ‘B’ Masaya Ajiya Malam stated this over the weekend at the destruction of the poultry products in Kaduna, adding that the seizure was made based on intelligence report.

He said despite the ban on importation of poultry products, some unscrupulous individuals still engage in the illegal and unpatriotic act.

He assured that the service will not relent in its statutory duty of implementing government policies to the later.

“The Service recently launched operation ‘HAWK DESCEND’ ‎which signifies zero tolerance on the smuggling of poultry products. It is on this premise that the unit re-strategised and increased its anti-smuggling activities in the zone which yielded this seizure/arrest,” he said.

He assured that the service is determined and doing everything possible to block the influx of contraband items in the zone.

He however warned smugglers and their agents to look for an alternative endeavour that is legitimate or face the full wrath of the law.

Masaya further assured law abiding and patriotic traders/importers that the service is there to facilitate trade while urging them to come forward and find out from the NCS how they can engage in cross border trade in line with FG guidelines.

“We will appreciate useful information about movement and storage of the products. We rely on credible intelligence that will lead us to interception of the products because we need to send a collective and powerful message to the exporting countries that Nigeria can no longer be a dumping site for products that have outlived their usefulness,” he said.
