Nineteen people have been reportedly killed in renewed attacks by gunmen in Attakar villages, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State in Nigeria’s North-West.
Chairman of the Local government Kumai Badu who confirmed the incidentsaid the attacks were allegedly launched in two Attakar villages.
He said 19 people have been reportedly killed while 10 others critically injured inMafang and Zilang villages.
The chairmansaid the attack also led to the burning of virtually all houses and food items in the two villages.
He explained that the over 2,000 victims of the attack were presently taking refuge at Mifi and Fadan Attakar villages while relief materials were being provided by the local government to assuage their sufferings.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Command, DSP Aminu Lawal, confirmed the attacks, saying they occurred between late Saturday and the early hours of yesterday.
“The incident occurred in Magat and some remote settlements in hills and rocky areas of Kaura local government bordering Plateau and Kaduna State,” he said, adding:.
“The joint task force of both the military and the police have been dispatched to the area to maintain order and to ascertain the attack. The casualty figure is still sketchy, however we will get back to you as soon as the figure is ascertained.”
