Delta FRSC declares war on road traffic defaulters

Following increase in avoidable road crashes associated with heavy duty vehicles like trailers, Delta State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has declared war on road defaulters and impounded not less than 100 trailers and associate vehicles that failed to comply with road safety rules and arrested their owners.

Speaking on the arrest Friday, the state Sector Commander, Mr. Kumven Rindom, said the command had declared a five day action tagged ‘Operation Scorpion’ focused on trailers and associate vehicles as there had been increase associated with them.

He said the command was on the lookout for trailers that are not road worthy, drivers without drivers’ license, those with no reflection on the body.

Mr. Rindom said in their last meeting, it was agreed that all trailers and associate vehicles must operate with certain standards and anyone that failed would be impounded to check increase in road crashes, adding that sensitisation had been on, and that those arresting are the ones that failed to comply.

“As we are concluding the operation today, we have impounded over 100 vehicles and their owners dragged before a mobile court for punishment, it is an on-going operation till we get to the desired target,” he said.

It would be recalled that the state command of FRSC had declared a five day operation Scorpion to fish out trailers that failed to comply with road worthiness and rules.
