Rather than spend Easter in celebration, Governor Peter Obiof Anambra State chose to spend much of the day with sick ones.

While others wined and dined, Obi visited many hospitals in the state, interacting with the sick and settling the bills of indigent ones discharged long ago but prevented from going home because they could not pay their bills.

At Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha, the governor paid the bills of 10 such people as well as those of 15 women delivered of babies.

Explaining why he chose to do that, Obi said that beyond Easter celebration the gesture was a way of identifying with the people and letting them know that the governor felt for them at all times. He said that part of the feeling for the people informed his efforts to improve the healthcare delivery in the state to serve the people better.

He disclosed that the collaboration with the Church was informed by its efforts in providing healthcare services to the people of the state at affordable rates.

Reacting to Obi’s gesture, one of the beneficiaries, Sergeant Kevin Osai, extolled the governor for his commitment to the promotion of the welfare of the people. He said that under Obi, the people of the state, for the first time, have come to witness what real governance is all about.

Speaking, the Administrator of Holy Rosary Hospital, Rev Fr. Stanley Ozigbo, thanked the governor for allowing himself to be used by God to renew the face of Anambra State.
