Reps urge Buhari to strengthen security in Adamawa

The House of Representatives on Thursday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to strengthen security in parts of Adamawa currently being ravaged by insurgency.

The House also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide camps for people displaced by the terrorism in the state.

The call was sequel to a motion by Rep. Buba Yusuf (Adamawa-APC) on the devastation in Gombi/Hong constituency by Boko Haram activities.

According to Yusuf, the people most affected are in Dugwaba, Guyaku, Garkida, Gaya and Hong districts.

Rep. Kamale Usman (Adamawa-APC), who supported the motion, had said that there was the need to reintegrate the affected people into their immediate environment.

The legislator argued that the insurgency had left more than 75 percent of peoples’ homes burnt and their means of livelihood completely destroyed.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the house, which therefore, urged federal agencies, including NEMA, National Commission for Refugees, National Economic Reconstruction Fund, to resettle the displaced people.

It asked the agencies to provide relief materials to the people to enable them to restart their lives, stressing that government should strengthen security in the areas to prevent reoccurrence. (NAN)
