The Katsina State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has ordered repeat inspection of materials used in the April 11 governorship polls in the state.
The Tribunal directed that the inspection should be conducted in 15 days.
The order was sequel to a complaint by Mr. Uyi Igunma, counsel to the petitioner, Alhaji Musa Nashuni, that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not allow his team enough access to the materials.
The Tribunal had given 10 days to the petitioner, governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, who is challenging the declaration of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aminu Masari, as governor.
Igunma had told the tribunal that INEC’s refusal to grant them full access to the documents should be regarded as contempt.
Ruling on it, Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Ali Garba, gave another 15 days to the petitioner’s team to conduct forensic examination on the election materials.
Garba said that exercise should be conducted from Wednesday.
Consequently, he adjourned sitting to August 20 for continuation.
In his reaction, counsel to INEC, Mr. Hassan Liman, assured the tribunal that the commission would do “everything humanly possible” to grant the petitioner access to the election materials. (NAN)
