Saraki storms Maiduguri for on-the-spot assessment of war against Boko Haram

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has made good his promise to visit the troubled Borno State in North-East Nigeria to assess the ongoing military operations there.

Senator Bukola Saraki, who arrived in Maiduguri the state capital shortly after 12 noon in a Nigerian Air Force plane, is also expected to receive briefing from the troops fighting the war against Boko Haram in the state.

The Senate President is also expected to hold talks with the State Governor, Kashim Shettima, at the Government House, the Shehu of Borno, as well as inspect some military facilities deployed for the operations there.

Lawmakers in the upper chamber had resolved that the Senate President would lead a delegation to visit the troops and internally displaced people’s camps in the North-East.

The resolution followed an observation by Senator George Sekibo on the infrastructural damages caused by the Boko Haram insurgency in the north east.

The Senate thereafter asked President Muhammadu Buhari to establish a presidential intervention committee on the rehabilitation of that part of the country.
