EU donates 16.5 m Euros to combat polio in Kebbi

The Director, Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KPHCDA) Dr. Abubakar Koko said the state government had received 16.5 million Euros (about N3.56 billion) donation from the European Union (EU) to combat Polio.

Koko made the disclosure on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi at an interactive session with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) on how to sustain the prevention of polio in line with global standards.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the event was hosted by the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Zainab Bagudu.

Koko said that the agency had established community development committees that would intensify efforts on the fight against polio.

He assured that the agency would continue to sensitise people, especially those in the rural areas on the disease.

In her speech, Bagudu commended the agency for the successes recorded in the fight against polio, noting that the state had been polio-free for about four years.

She pledged to collaborate with stakeholders, including traditional rulers, clerics, journalists and parents in ensuring that the state was free from the child-killer disease.

The governor’s wife said that she would sustain her support to the state's health initiative programmes for a healthy population.

She called on parents to ensure that their children were immunised against Polio and other killer-diseases. (NAN)
