Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu
By ADEDAYO BABATUNDE
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has revealed why the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) need to zone its presidential ticket to the Southeast.
Speaking with newsmen on Monday in Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu noted that the Southeast has not produced Nigeria’s president, hence the need for the party to zone its ticket to the region.
According to Ikpeazu, zoning PDP presidential tickets to the southeast region will be in the spirit of fairness and justice.
Ikpeazu argued that with PDP zoning its Chairmanship to the North, the presidential slot should go to the Southeast.
“Our zoning options have been spelt out by the PDP and it says that the chairmanship of the party should go to the North in 2023.
“As an individual, I feel that the weight of equity and justice favours the president from the South and when we come to the South, we find out which zone has not yet produced the president and give the ticket to that zone,” he told Daily Sun.
Daily Independent had last week reported that the opposition party, PDP zoned its National Chairmanship to the North during its National Executive Council meeting (NEC) held in Abuja. (Daily Independent)
