Senate President Bukola Saraki has reiterated the commitment of the 8th Senate in dispensing valuable leadership which would be a much more focused legislative session, and capable of producing watershed legislative interventions.

Disclosing on his Twitter handle monitored, Saraki added there was a need to fast-track every process of change in the parliamentary system of the National Assembly, saying: “As the Senate resumes, it’s expected that the recess would have in no small measure help us consolidate stability of National Assembly.”

He further tweeted: “We can only achieve real change by working together & time is now. Before recess, we started process of laying down marker for new Senate.

“Also, we have leadership task of turning challenges around through purpose-driven lawmaking and Nigerians will not forgive us if we abdicate. We have insurgency threatening very existence of our country and fabric of its unity from North-East, we are facing dire streak due to mismanagement.”

The Senate president admitted that the mandate given by the people must be leveraged on to salvage the challenges which have bedeviled the country for a very long time.

“Our mandate is not to come and play politics; our mandate is to be solution providers for the numerous challenges that bedeviled our country. Nigerians did not put their lives on the line for politics but for responsible leadership that can deliver good governance.

“It is time we reminded ourselves of the solemn promise to deliver real change, which can’t be achieved in atmosphere distracted politics. Now is time to move as one house in one direction to fulfill the promise we made to our constituencies that gave us our mandate,” he said.
