The roads leading to Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday morning witnessed an usual scenario while President Muhammadu Buhari was preparing to depart for a state visit to Cameroon.
Berger Junction, Wuse Road, Utako and Jabi roads were all blocked by heavy traffic, resulting to a standstill in the metropolis.
This has become the usual scenario during presidential movement, resulting in anguish for residents and motorists.
A motorist, who gave his name as Mr. Sunday told News Express: “The Umaru Yar’Adua Expressway which leads to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja often experience incessant blockage in the free flow of movement, each time President Muhammadu Buhari travels out of or returns to Abuja.
“On every occasion that Mr. Buhari wants to travel or arriving from a journey, the expressways are often closed for prolonged periods before the President’s convoy eventually comes along.”
Another source said: “My brother, you wouldn’t believe this same thing happened when the president was leaving the country to visit US president. I don’t think it’s a normal thing which must be allowed to continue. They should find a better way of easing the traffic whenever the president wants to leave or come back to the country. Yes, it has far reaching consequences on us.”
Another resident said: “Some people, at this point in time, are on their way to go to their different places of work. But they may not find it easy getting there because of a development like this.”
