Ekiti to collaborate with RTEAN on peace maintenance —Fayose

Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti said yesterday that his administration would collaborate with the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to maintain peace in the state.

Fayose made the remark when the national executives of the union paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that leaders must ensure that peace remained the hallmark of their governance, stressing that being a leader was not about driving the best cars but the number of lives impacted.

Said the governor: “I have to be there for the drivers so they can be there for me; I will collaborate with your people, represent your interests and protect them because when you have enough followers, you have peace.

“As leaders, we must make sure that peace is the hallmark of our governance, being a leader is not when you drive the best cars or wear the best clothes but how many lives you were able to touch.

“The union should do the right things and the government will do its part because it is the major association with the highest crowd; we are members of the same family.”

Fayose said his administration was able to resolve the issues between RTEAN and security personnel in the state by encouraging them.

He said that buses were also given to them as part of his administration’s support to the association.

He said that the calibre of prominent people in the executive was a sign that the union had matured just like other sectors, urging them to instill discipline in the sector.

Earlier, the President of the union, Alhaji Musa Shehu, appreciated Fayose for receiving them in spite of the short notice. Shehu thanked the governor for his support. (NAN)
