Okowa challenges political leaders to relate with the grassroots

To be good representatives of the people, the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on political office holders to relate with their people at the grassroots.

Governor Okowa was speaking while paying an unscheduled visit to the Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward I, Owa Alero, Ika North-East local government area of the state, Mr. Silvernus Tudeme.

He told journalists that all political office holders in the state must be at home with their people.

“In any case, the mandate we are holding today came from the people at the wards through to the local government and the enture state. Having recorded their mandate, we owe them a duty to respect them,” Okowa said.

The Governor, who hails from Owa-Alero, an agrarian community in the local government, also said: “Any politician that does not relate with his people definitely is not a good politician, Nigerians are better off now, they understand the politics and if you don't relate with them, they will vote you out in the coming elections.

“I have always related with my people because they have the power democratically and without relating with them, you cannot actually asses their challenges and you may not know how to tackle their challenges because the economies of today is not all about textbooks on economics.”

Okowa stated that every political appointee working with him must be close to his people to enable them know their challenges for government to be in good position to address such challenges.

“We need to relate with the people and know what their needs are, I believe that those who will serve with me in my administration will compulsorily relate with their people or else, they won’t have any space in the government of Delta State,” he stated.
