A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered that one Joseph Agegbe, 30, be `given’ 10 strokes of the cane for getting drunk in public and unable to control himself.
Agegbe who resides at Kadokuchi village, Abuja, pleaded guilty to the one-count charge levelled against him.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to other potential offenders.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, had told the court that the matter was reported by somebody who pleaded anonymity at the Gwarimpa Police Station, FCT, on June 20.
Idi said the accused got drunk in public and could not conduct himself in an orderly manner.
According to him, Agegbe also failed to take proper care of himself.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 401 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
