Government workers in Imo State today embarked on an indefinite strike to protest what they called the unwillingness of the State Government under the watch of Owelle Rochas Okorocha to fulfil its own part of the recent agreement it freely entered with labour to pay the backlog of salaries and allowances.
Notice of the industrial action, which effectively grounded government activities across the state, had come via a public announcement broadcast on Radio Nigeria, Heartland FM and Hot FM. The statement signed by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Austen Chilakpu, and other Imo labour leaders, directed all workers to remain in their respective homes until further notice.
