Boko Haram insurgents appear desperate to penetrate Burutai, hometown of Nigeria’s new Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai. They have attacked the town twice in less than 24 fours but met their match in Nigerian troops on both occasions – just as happened during their previous attack of last week.
According to Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, “At about 9:30 p.m. last night suspected Boko Haram terrorists made a futile attempt to attack Buratai town, Borno State, and the military camp located in the area. I am glad to inform you that the gallant soldiers rose to the occasion and dealt with the situation.”
Col. Usman disclosed in a WhatsApp message to News Express that the desperate terrorists “made concerted effort at about 3:00 a.m. this morning which was equally repelled by the gallant soldiers.”
He added that “the situation in the town is (now) cool and calm. Troops positions are being reinforced. We shall pursue them to their enclaves.”
