A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a man, Elijah Okoro, to one month imprisonment for assaulting a man with cutlass.
Okoro, who resides at Wuse Zone 2, pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.
The Magistrate, Mr. Aminu Eri, however gave the convict an option of N1,000 fine.
Eri also ordered that the convict should pay the complainant N3,000 for treatment of the wounds sustained.
He warned that failure to do so would attract another one month imprisonment.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Gideon Ekemson, told the court that Mr. Ndubuisi Duru of 1st Avenue, Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the case at Wuse Police Station on June 20.
Ekemson said the accused had pursued the complainant and inflicted injury on right hand with a cutlass.
According to him, during interrogation the accused confessed to committing the offence.
The offences contravened the provisions of Section 242 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation. (NAN)
