A Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja has adjourned till April 25, 2013 to deliver judgment in a matter of fundamental human right to personal liberty instituted by the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) against the State Security Services (SSS).
The presiding judge, Justice E.S. Chukwu fixed the date after parties re-adopted their written addresses yesterday.
Other parties in the suit are the director General of the SSS, Mr. Ita Ekpeyong and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN).
Among the prayers of the Peace Corps (Applicant) is the payment of N250 million as general damages by the defendants.
PCN is also praying the court to declare that continuous circulation of memos and circulars by the SSS that the corps is illegal organisation and not recognised by law as an aberration and contrary to the provision of section 40 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution and therefore unconstitutional, unlawful, illegal, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.
In their counter affidavits, the respondents urged the court to dismiss the application as it is
unmeritorious and baseless.
