Governors Forum wants effective plan to rescue states

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum is seeking an effective plan that must be worked out to address the financial and security challenges currently facing the states in the country to avoid a worse situation.

They have therefore asked both the states and the Federal Government to improve on their finances, health and security.

The Chairman of the forum, who is also the Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, yesterday told journalists at a press conference after a lengthy closed door meeting of the governors, that the challenges of finance, which is currently affecting the country, was a priority.

He said that part of the issues discussed with President Buhari was to seek a lasting solution to the country’s economy and the stability of the foreign currency.

The forum, which comprises governors from the 36 states of the federation, also discussed a plan to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure that the National Health Act is operational.

The Zamfara State Governor also made some clarifications about the 2.1 billion dollars recently released to the states by President Muhammadu Buhari to ease their financial burden.

It was the maiden meeting of the forum after it reconciled all aggrieved factions in June.
