Support Group begins work on Obiano’s re-election as Anambra Governor in 2018

The city of Awka Tuesday witnessed a beehive of activities as an organisation known as “Willie Obiano Support Group” was inaugurated by the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano.

Politicians of all walks of life used the occasion to eulogise Governor Obiano for lifting the state to a glorious level where, they said, it would remain an envy to other states of the nation and urged him to continue on the giant strides he already have going on in the state.

Speaking at the occasion, the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye urged the party faithful to practise what they say by being positive supporting the party in all its struggles in order to attain greater height.

He reassured the party members of his readiness to play his role well by ensuring that internal democracy was enshrined in the party adding that the era of business as usual was over, rather anybody that merit a position will be given an opportunity to serve.

Oye explained that as part of measures to strengthen the party, the leadership would embark on revalidation exercise for party members so as to know the real card carrying party members.

“We will soon embark on new registration and distribution of new membership card for every party member and the registration cost N100,” he said.

He called on the Willie Obiano Support Group to get down to work by mobilising people at the grassroots level to be part of the new APGA saying that if the new party’s programme is followed to the latter, that APGA will in no distant time take control of six states.

Addressing the party members, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke who represented the state governor noted that the group which has a vital role to play in ensuring the re-election of Governor Obiano came at a right time.

He said that Obiano should be supported because he has elevated governance in the state through his giant strides, adding that Anambra was blessed to have such a leader with the purpose of making the state better.

“Everything our governor does is aimed at making our state better. He has done an outstanding job on security especially. Now people call him from outside the state to ask for his advice on security. He is one person who has the vision of where he wants to take Anambra State. He is providing leadership, which is not just building of roads and other infrastructure, but providing quality leadership to the admiration of our people,” he said.

Okeke appealed to members of the party to eschew rancor to ensure that the objective of WOSG was achieved.

Chairman of the occasion, Major General Arinze Ebenebe (rtd) said WOSG was a venture that needed the support of all those who wish Anambra well, noting that with many people aggrieved in APGA, true reconciliation was imperative.

He promised to galvanise prominent people in the state to key into the vision of the group, adding that there was need to bring all prominent sons and daughters of Anambra on board.

On his part, the National chairman of the group, Chief Jude Emecheta, said the organisation was formed to promote the four pillars of the Obiano’s administration by reaching out to people in the grassroots to join in the crusade.

He stressed that the membership of the group at the moment revolve around the party members, that the door was open to all those who share the vision of the governor irrespective of their party affiliation.
