Final burial programme of the late veteran Nollywood actress and activist, Rachael Tabuno Oniga, commenced this morning, Friday 27.
The process kicked off this with a church service held at the Catholic Church of Resurrection, Magodo Phase 2 estate, Lagos.
Her body will be committed to mother earth at Omega Funeral Homes, a private cemetery in Lagos, followed by reception at Grandeur Events Center, Oregun, Lagos.
Since the family of the actress announced her death which occurred by 10pm on Friday, July 30, 2021 at age 64 "from a heart related issue", there have been series of events by different groups to honour the Delta State-born actress.
On Wednesday, August 4, a high powered delegation from the Nigerian Intervention Movement (NIM) otherwise known as The Third Force, and the movement's registered political party, People's Trust, jointly paid a condolence visit to the deceased family at Magodo Phase 2 estate in Lagos.
This was preceded by a similar visit by a delegation from the Lagos State House of Assembly led by front line Nollywood actor, producer and director who is also a member of the State Assembly, Desmond Elliot.
On Saturday, August 21, Nigerian movie industry came together to honour their departed member in an event tagged, A Night of Tributes for Rachael Oniga.
The well attended event was held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos State Broadcasting Corporation, Lateef Jakande Way, Ikeja, Lagos.
Apart from being an actress, Rachael Oniga was a member of the steering committee of the Third Force as well as a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of People's Trust.
As the Director General, NIM, Sir Wale Okunniyi put it during the night of tributes,
"Chief Rachael Oniga is not dead, she has only gone home to rest. She left a lot of legacies behind. And as long as those legacies remain in our hearts, she is still alive".
Rachael Oniga left behind three children, grandchildren and other relations.
