 National Theatre disappoints fun seekers

Several fun-seekers that thronged the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, on Friday to enjoy the Eid-el-fitr expressed their dissatisfaction with the theatre’s management’s inability to organise events there.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the horse-ride was the only available activity which few fun-seekers engaged themselves with.

In separate interviews with NAN on Friday, some of the revellers described the theatre’s environment as "boring,’’ wondering why there were no events put in place on a day like this.

Mrs Ayo Olanipeku, a teacher, said that she was disappointed to be at the theatre with a view to watching a Yoruba film that had been advertised before on the television only to be here and discovered it was not going to be shown.

"I came with my children all the way from Egbeda to watch a Yoruba film that was advertised on TV, but on getting here, there is no film to be aired. I just wasted my time and money to get here, only to be told that no film is on. This is shameful,’’ the mother of three said.

One of her children, who was visibly unhappy with the inactivity at the place, quickly urged her mother to let them leave.

Also, Mrs Taiwo Ojo, a businesswoman, said that the management of the theatre should have put in place some activities and fun equipment for relaxation during festive period.

She said that the horse brought in by some individuals, made relaxation at the place restricted to only few.

The visibly angry woman said: "There is supposed to be varieties of fun for the children to play with but it is only horse ride that is available. This is not too good.

"This is a place that ought to be lively but unfortunately, nothing is going on here,’’ she said.
Similarly, Mrs Janet Ibe, a civil servant, regretted her coming to the theatre, adding that it was her first time of coming to the place.

"I thought I was going to have a lot fun here. I am here with my family but everywhere here is just boring, no games and no films to watch, it could have been better for me to stay at home or better still go to the beach.

"My children are not happy because this is not what they bargained for, in fact, I will never come here again." (NAN)
