Breaking News: Elderly woman, 10-year-old girl kill 50 in Sallah bomb attacks in Damaturu
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that there were two suicide bomb explosions today at about 7:40 a.m. in Damaturu, capital of Yobe State, perpetrated by two female suicide bombers.
“One elderly woman and a ten-year-old girl, detonated devices at screening areas for intending Muslim worshippers at Layin Gwange, Damaturu and at “Phase One” (in front of former state secretariat), Damaturu,” said Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman.
Reports said that 43 persons died in the first explosion and several people were injured, while seven people lost their lives in the second explosion.”
Col. Usman, however, said that “4 persons died in the first explosion and 7 people injured, while 5 people lost their lives in the second explosion and 11 wounded. The situation is under control.”
He added that both Yobe State Governor and the Chief of Army Staff, sympathise with and urged the people to stay calm and be security conscious. No amount of terrorist act would deter our resolve to stamp out terrorism and insurgency.”
