The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has congratulated the Muslim faithful for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, enjoining them to observe the Eid-el-Fitri celebration with strict adherence to road traffic rules and regulations.

In his Sallah message, Oyeyemi who is also the President of the West African Road Safety Organisation (WARSO) admonished the Muslims to sustain the spirit of love, sacrifice and self denial which characterised the Ramadan period, saying that every road user has a right to the use of the road without fear of injury or death caused by another road user.

The Corps Marshal further enjoined motorists to avoid dangerous driving, overloading, speed violation and making call or texting while driving, pointing out that FRSC has deployed sufficient number of personnel and logistics along crash and congestion-prone areas across the country to ensure smooth celebration.

“Ramadan was a period of sober reflection when Muslims showed increased devotion to the service of God and sought for His forgiveness, even as they showed greater compassion to less privileged members of the society. These are virtues that should be sustained beyond the period of celebration as they align fully with the spirit of the ongoing campaign for safer road environment by the FRSC,” he stated.

Oyeyemi assured members of the public that all FRSC Road Side Clinics, Ambulance Points and Help Areas would remain open throughout the period of the celebration to attend to travellers in need of road safety related assistance. “For the avoidance of doubt, members of the public are enjoined to immediately contact FRSC Call Centre on 0700-CALL-FRSC (0700-2255-3772) or its Toll-free number: 122 to report any emergency situation for prompt response by the FRSC patrol and rescue teams deployed across the country,” he further stated.

The Corps Marshal appealed to the Muslim faithful to use the period to reflect deeply on the plight of the victims of road traffic crashes and pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased, stressing that every Nigerian must recommit to the task of making the nation’s roads safer for all.
