President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi, Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The announcement was made this afternoon by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina. “The termination of Akpobolokemi’s appointment takes immediate effect,” Adesina said. No reason was given for the decision by the President.
Mr Akpobolokemi was directed to hand over the management of NIMASA and all government property in his possession to the most senior officer in the agency who will remain in charge until a new Director-General is appointed.
Buhari has meanwhile approved the dissolution of the Governing Boards of all federal parastatals, agencies and institutions. Adesina said that the dissolution has taken effect from today, assuring that the dissolution will not, in any way, affect the Federal Executive Bodies listed in the 1999 Constitution.
“Until the boards are reconstituted, Chief Executive Officers of the affected parastatals, agencies and institutions are to refer all matters requiring the attention of their boards to the President through the Permanent Secretaries of their supervising ministries,” Adesina said.
“The dissolution order covers administrative or technical committees and other similar organs established by the now dissolved boards,” he stated.
