Ex-Taraba Military Administrator dies after brief illness

A former Military Administrator of Taraba State during General Sani Abacha era, Col. Yohana Mamman Dickson (rtd.), is dead. He was aged 65.

Dickson died at Barau Dikko General Hospital, Kaduna on Tuesday, July 14, after a brief illness. He will be buried at his home town Ungwan Baki, Kanikon, Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, next week Friday, July 24.

Born on December 28, 1950 into the family of Mamman Dickson, the late Yohana was enrolled into Junior ECWA Primary School in 1958, proceeding to Senior ECWA Primary School in 1962. In 1965 he attended St. Edna’s Teacher College, Zaria.

On April 16, 1970, late Dickson enrolled into the National Defence Academy (NDA) for the 8th Regular Course after passing the examination and interview. He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant on September 9, 1972.

Late Dickson attended many military courses within and outside the country and held many military service appointments. His last military assignment was his appointment as a Military Administrator of Taraba State in December 1993. He voluntarily retired from the Nigerian Army after 27 years of meritorious service on January 31, 1997.

After his retirement from the military, late Dickson joint politics as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and contested the Southern Kaduna Senatorial seat on four occasions but could not succeed. He will be remembered for his uprightness and ease of accessibility.
