FGC Kano Old Students Association holds National Dialogue in Lagos

The Federal Government College (FGC) Kano Old Students Association (Lagos State Branch) in conjunction with the National Secretariat of the Unity Schools Old Students’ Association is kick-starting a conversation with the organisation of a National Dialogue on the visions of the founding fathers of the Unity Schools. the event is billed for next week Wednsday, July 22, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Lagos.

The founding fathers of the Unity Schools had a vision of using the institutions as a platform to mould future leaders that can advance the cause of Unity, Peace and Progress in our great country, Nigeria. There are currently 104 Unity Schools (Including Kings College Lagos and Queens College Yaba, Lagos).

At the event Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and Dr. Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate will lead the discussion. Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State is Special Guest of Honour. There will also be a distinguished cast of Unity Schools’ alumni who will be panelists at the dialogue.

The organisers of the event states that “at this crucial juncture in our national life, it is imperative that we the products of the Unity Schools examine the role of our alma maters in nation building, particularly in addressing the need for national cohesion and unity in such a culturally and religiously heterogenous country.

“We need to address the following questions: What has happened to the vision of the founding fathers of the Unity Schools? Do the Unity Schools still bear relevance in today’s Nigeria? What should be the role of the products of the Unity Schools in nation building?”
