The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisation (NACOMYO) on Tuesday called on Muslims and others to be security conscious at all times, especially at praying grounds and worship centres during the Eid-el-Fitr.
The National President, (NACOMYO) Alhaji Kamal’ddin Akintunde made the call at a press conference in Abeokuta.
"This call is coming on the heels of reports of bomb blasts and attacks in some parts of the country coupled with the Inspector General of Police (IGP)’s statement alerting the nation of cross border movement and activities of the insurgents.
"And the entire Muslims world awaits the celebration to mark the end of Ramadan fasting period, I believe this can undermine or endanger smooth celebration of the Eid-el-fitri.
"NACOMYO has curried vigilance among Muslims and other citizens across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria in the wake of continuous spread of insurgency," he said.
Akintunde stressed the need for security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities and perform their duties at the various praying centres and other crowded areas.
He also stressed that Muslims and other Nigerians must at all times be vigilant by not allowing suspicious or strange vehicles to park close to crowded areas and people should not pick strange objects.
He added that people should always expose any strange face and suspicious movements within the perimeter or areas of coverage of worship and recreation centres.
NACOMYO implored community development and landlord associations nationwide to ensure vigilance in their areas while they must also know facts about their tenants.
He urged Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper, saying ``security is everybody’s responsibility’’. (NAN)
