Delta State Governor, Senator ifeanyi Okowa, has dissolved the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
The dissolution was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, and made available to journalists this morning in Asaba, the state capital.
According to the statement, the dissolution takes immediate effect. All members of the commission were directed to hand over all government properties, including vehicles in their possession.
The governor thanked all DESOPADEC Board members, past and present, for the sterling achievement recorded through the commission, assuring that their contribution would not be forgotten.
News Express reports that DESOPADEC was created by an Act passed by the State House of Assembly in 2006 under the administration of Chief James Ibori.
It serves as an interventionist agency and was given the mandate to alleviate the sufferings of the oil bearing communities in the state.
Over the years, the commission has delivered its mandate through countless road and water projects in the rural, coastal and other oil bearing communities.
The commission has also awarded scholarships to deserving Deltans in different fields of study and recorded outstanding results in the execution of its projects.
