Chairman of Igbo Stakeholders Forum, Lagos State, Prince Nixon Okwara
Ndigbo resident in Amuwo Odofin Local government area of Lagos state, under the aegis of Igbo Stake Holders Forum, Lagos State has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State Chapter, for giving them vice chairmanship position.
Speaking at a dinner and fundraising ceremony for the Vice Chairmanship candidate, Mrs. Maureen Ashara, the Chairman of Igbo Stakeholders Forum, Lagos State, Prince Nixon Okwara, said that by giving the Igbo, the position, APC has started addressing the demands of the Igbo, which is equity, fairness and justice.
According to him, as far as Lagos state is concerned, Igbo are partners in progress and as such should be accommodated in the scheme of things.
He said that the question everywhere is what the hell does Ndigbo want?
Prince Okwara said that Ndigbo are not asking for any preferential treatment, but for an egalitarian society, where everybody would be free to play his or her own part to the best of his or her own ability.
According to him, the effort to get the vice chairmanship position was made possible by the likes of the former State Chairman of APC, Henry Ajomale and other progressive minded people.
He described it as a step in the right direction, adding that Lagosians would see a change in the voting partner in Amnuwo Odofin Local government area, which has been the stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He also commended Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making Lagos state a pan Nigerian state, where every ethnic nationality is free to ply his or her trade to the best of his ability without fear or favour.
His words: “Today’s dinner and fundraising is historic in the sense that this is the first time that APC in Amuwo Odofin is giving an Igbo person vice chairmanship slot. People have been asking, what does the Igbo want? What is happening here today is part of what we want. We as a people are not asking for any preferential treatment. What we are asking is equity, fairness and justice. As partners in the development of Lagos state, we don’t want to be at the sideline. We want to be carried along in the scheme of things. If we are asked to vote, we also want to be voted for. So, that is what the Igbo man and woman want, an egalitarian society.”
In her contribution, the vice chairmanship candidate, Mrs. Ashara commended Prince Okwara for his selfless service to the Igbo in Amuwo Odofin in particular and Lagos State in general.
According to her, as a result of Prince Okwara’s efforts and goodwill Ndigbo in Lagos are now being carried along in the scheme of things.
She said that as the first Igbo vice chairperson of Amuwo Odofin, she is going to be a mother and a sister to all.
She promised to lay an exemplary foundation for those who would come after her, adding that she is conscious of the fact that with her position, the fate of the Igbo is at stake and as such she would try as much as she could to deliver.
