Tension is high in Igboland, South-East Nigeria, as the people seek to come to terms with yesterday’s massacre of their kith, who formed the bulk of the over 60 people killed when a popular luxury bus park in Kano, in the country’s North-West, was bombed.

Though no group has claimed responsibility for the dastardly act, fingers are pointing in the direction of the two violent Islamic sects, Boko Haram and Ansaru.

“Tension is high following threats of riots in reaction to the killings,” a News Express correspondent monitoring the situation in Onitsha and other parts of Anambra State said minutes ago. The correspondent disclosed that “people are angry and asking if the perpetrators do not realise that those they are killing are humans and not animals.”

Investigations elsewhere in the South-East confirmed that NO REPRISSAL KILLINGS HAVE TAKEN PLACE but that there is need for security agents to be vigilant in view of the anger in the region.

Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, Mr. Peter Obi, who is in Rome as part of the Federal Government’s delegation to the installation of the Pope Francis I, had sent a message home earlier today condemning the Kano killings as “barbaric and condemnable.”

Obi, who is also Governor of Anambra State, called for restraint, saying he was already in the process of contacting his Kano State counterpart, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for more details, since the barbarism took place at Sabon Gari, the home to non-indigenes, especially Igbos.
